About the programme

What the Bukmuk
Literary Camp actually does

Most summer programmes keep children busy. This one makes them better communicators — in ways that show up in school, in exams, and in life. The Bukmuk Summer Literary Camp runs 5 weeks of live, instructor-led sessions built around a single belief: that the ability to express yourself clearly is the most transferable skill a child can develop.

Every session is 45–60 minutes of real activity — not passive watching. Children debate, write stories, give speeches, act out scenes, analyse situations, and share their thinking with peers. The batch stays small (10 kids maximum) so every child is seen, heard, and pushed.

The two tracks — Junior (Age 7–10) and Senior (Age 10–16) — are structured differently on purpose. Junior builds creative confidence through storytelling, roleplay, and expression. Senior builds communication depth through debate, persuasion, analytical writing, and leadership voice. Both tracks run Monday through Friday with morning and evening batch options.

  • Trained Bukmuk instructors — not freelancers, not automated content
  • Live, real-time interaction — every session happens on Zoom with full camera-on energy
  • Structured week-by-week themes with clear learning goals per session
  • Written and spoken outputs — children leave with something they made
  • Week 5 Showcase — a live performance for family that the whole camp builds toward

What children gain

  • Confidence to speak in front of people — classrooms, assemblies, interviews
  • Ability to structure an argument and defend it calmly
  • Creative writing skills — plot, character, emotion, narrative arc
  • Vocabulary growth through active use, not rote memorisation
  • Emotional intelligence through empathy-based storytelling activities
  • Critical thinking through debate, current affairs, and two-viewpoint writing

Two tracks

Different by design,
not just by age

Junior and Senior tracks aren't just shorter and longer sessions — the entire learning philosophy is different. One builds creative confidence. The other builds communication precision.

Junior Track

Age 7–10 · Class 1–5

1 hour per session · Storytelling, drama, expression

🌅 11am–12 noon  |  🌆 4:30pm–5:30pm

  • Drawing and storytelling combined (Draw & Tell format)
  • Art & craft activities tied to weekly themes
  • Fun speaking games — "Would You Rather", Telephone Conversations, Pack Your Bag
  • Week 5 Showcase: Story presentation + performance
Senior Track

Age 10–16 · Class 5–10

1 hour per session · Debate, writing, leadership

🌅 11:00am–12:00noon  |  🌆 3:00pm–4:00pm

Built for children who need to sharpen how they think and communicate. Each week builds on the previous one — moving from basic expression through to leadership voice and persuasive performance.

  • Structured debate formats — mini debates, JAM sessions, formal debates
  • Persuasive and analytical writing tied to real-world topics
  • Newspaper reading, current affairs discussions, two-viewpoint writing
  • Mock interviews, elevator pitches, extempore speaking
  • Week 5 Showcase: Speeches, debate performance, final presentations

Why it matters

What stays with your child
after the camp ends

Skills developed here don't stay in a Zoom window. They show up in PTMs, school exams, extracurriculars, and how your child carries themselves in a room.

📝

Better English writing in school

Story writing, descriptive pieces, and structured arguments directly translate to better answers in English, SST, and Hindi papers. Children who write for expression write better under exam pressure too.

Academic
🎤

Classroom and stage confidence

Regular speaking practice in a safe group removes the anxiety of being called on in class. Children stop dreading oral exams, elocution competitions, and school plays — they look forward to them.

Confidence
🧩

Logical, structured thinking

Debate and argument training teaches children to think before they speak, organise their ideas, and back up their views with reasoning. That habit carries into Maths, Science reasoning, and life decisions.

Critical thinking
🌍

Awareness of the world

The Senior track's Current Affairs week introduces children to real-world discussions in a structured, age-appropriate format. Children develop opinions, not just opinions given to them by others.

Senior track
💛

Emotional intelligence

Naming feelings, writing from different emotional perspectives, and empathy-based roleplay give children tools to understand themselves and others. Teachers and parents both notice this shift.

Life skill
🏅

A real published piece

Full-camp students are eligible for the Bukmuk Summer Anthology. The best stories and speeches from the camp are selected, edited, and published. Your child's name in print is not a certificate — it's a credential.

after two weeks

"My daughter refused to speak in class before this. By week three she was raising her hand voluntarily. Her teacher mentioned it at the PTM without us saying anything."

"The batch size is what makes it work. The instructor actually knew what my son struggled with and pushed him on exactly that — not a generic script."

"We started with just Week 1 to test it. By Thursday he was asking if we could register for all five weeks. We did. He did the Showcase and cried happy tears. Worth every rupee."

Questions

Things parents
ask us before registering

Can we join only one week without committing to all five?
Yes — that's exactly how it's designed. Each week is a complete, standalone theme. Start with one, see how your child responds, and add more from there. The only exception is Week 5 Showcase, which requires prior participation.
Which track is right for my child?
Junior (Age 7–10) is built on creative expression — storytelling, roleplay, drama, drawing, and imaginative games. Senior (Age 10–16) builds communication and critical thinking — debate, writing, persuasion, and current affairs. If your child is 10, either track may suit depending on temperament — reach out and we'll help you choose.
My child has never done public speaking. Is this appropriate?
This is built for exactly those children. The activities are carefully sequenced to build confidence gradually — children are never put on the spot before they're ready. The small batch means instructors know which children need more encouragement and give it without making it obvious.
What if we miss a session during the week?
Junior track sessions are standalone within each week, so missing one day doesn't affect the rest. Senior track sessions build on each other through the week — we'll share a short session recap so your child can pick up where things left off.
How is this different from a school English class or tuition?
No textbooks, no marks, no homework. The goal is genuine expression in a low-pressure setting. Children speak because they want to, not because they're being graded. The skills transfer back into school — but that's a by-product, not the pitch.
What do we need to attend?
Any device with Zoom — laptop, tablet, or phone. Stable internet and a working camera. A quiet space where your child can speak without distraction. Some Junior sessions involve a craft activity, for which a simple materials list will be shared in advance.
When do sessions happen? Can we choose our batch?
Senior: 11am–12noon and 3–4pm. Junior: 12:30–1:30pm and 4:30–5:30pm. Weeks run: Week 1 (27 Apr–1 May), Week 2 (4–8 May), Week 3 (11–15 May), Week 4 (18–22 May), Week 5 (25–29 May). You can state your preferred batch at registration — we'll confirm based on availability.
